The Italian word for ‘chalk’, gesso has been used in framing since as early as the 15th century.
The gesso is mixed with glue and water then heated to a fluid consistency and applied to the frame.
It is used to prime the frames and through the building up of layers provides an excellent surface for
coloured Bole before gilding.
|
EXPERIENCE |
Our team has 10 years experience producing high quality hand-crafted, gilded frames, mirrors and pelmets.
We specialise in making 18th and 19th century style frames and mirrors and have also developed a large range of contemporary designs and finishes using the same techniques and high standards.
We can offer advice to help our clients choose a frame or mirror for their specific requirements.
|
BESPOKE |
As well as our range of mirrors and frames we are able to make bespoke pieces to our client’s individual specifications from drawings, photographs or samples, to their preferred size, design and finish.
|
RESTORATION |
Since our fine art picture frames are made with traditional techniques we also offer a restoration service for antique frames using these established skills.
|
FINISHES |
We have a large range of finishes that are shown on this website.
We use mainly Dutch gold and silver leaf as well as 23.5 carat gold leaf.
We can also copy finishes or create new finishes to suit individual jobs.
Our frames and mirrors can be left in the gesso, this not only gives our clients the opportunity to apply their own finish, but is also very beautiful unadorned.
